“Donald’s” Story
My family calls our 10/4 “Donald” because it so closely resembles Donald Duck’s blue car (with his three nephews squeezed into the mother-in-law seat).
Our Donald belonged from 1934 until 1975 to the English aristocrat and artist Katharina F. Harriot (Highworth, Wilts), then to John Francis Chapman (Mells/Frowe), afterwards to Neville Ewart Hughes (Shelton Mallet, Somers.), and since 1997 to Michael Breisky, at that time Austrian Ambassador in Dublin. In 1998 the original British registration AWL 466was changed to the Irish registration 34-D-20; in 1999, after relocation by the same owner, to the Austrian registration VB 157 BD, still valid today.
Since 2010, Donald has participated successfully in vintage car rallies every year, most recently in June 2025. Since 2010 it has been under the dedicated care of Autohaus Pöckl, Mondsee.
Already at the time of acquisition in 1997, with a credible odometer reading of 35,000 miles, Donald was in excellent condition, although it had to be adapted to new Irish registration requirements with a new dynamo, indicators, and seat belts. Since then, some repairs became necessary: a new cylinder head gasket in 2008, brake cylinders in 2009; a year later, the engine was replaced with an original Morris 10/4 Series II engine from 1935, used, with about 40,000 to 50,000 miles. In 2024, a major engine service was carried out: block and pistons re-bored, as coolant had leaked into a cylinder beneath the head gasket. Afterwards, in June 2025, Donald completed a two-day rally with three racing laps at the Salzburg Ring successfully.
